356 tons of debris later…

🟢Pictured is the bottom floor of the Cavalier and a summary of the effect of the work from the past three weeks.

🟢In July 2023 you will be able to see on a big screen – how 250 years ago the Stronghold in Srebrna Góra, the second largest mountain fortress in Europe, was built.

🟢Why so much rubble? Unfortunately, after demilitarization, except for isolated touches, the Fortress was not renovated. The Cavalier and adjacent bastions after 1945 were overgrown with invasive greenery, which with its root system breached the vault structures, allowing rainwater to penetrate. Lack of woodwork + water + winter = frost corrosion… And so the vault between the upper and lower storeys (on the photo) was progressively destroyed over the years. Until it collapsed after 1985…

🟢How do we know that after 1985? That was the year when the General Conservator of Antiquities – Andrzej Gruszecki, commissioned a comprehensive inventory of the Silver Mountain Fortress. Traces of the measurements – white lines in the corners of the rooms – have just been uncovered at a height of one meter from the floor level. This is not the only casemate or postern that collapsed during this time. We are glad that step by step we manage to “regain” other parts of the Fortress… The work continues.
